Question on Lucifer/Satan?

I'm not looking to shoot anyone down here, but I have a serious question. Why is Satan called Lucifer is Lucifer means "the bringer of light" which means knowledge right? I thought Lucifer was a Greek thing, so could somebody please enlighten me on this? I don't want any "god luvs you, repent" type answers.
